Do you know how easy it is to give a second life to a dresser?

It takes approx. 2 minutes to read this article

Are you bored with your current dresser? It is already very worn, worn out and unfashionable? Or maybe you discovered an old piece of furniture in the attic at your grandparents and do not know what to do with it? In this article we will suggest how to restore style and second life to the chest of drawers!

Chests are very practical furniture. They don’t take up too much space and you can hide really many clothes and accessories in their drawers. What is more, they are stylish and fit to almost every arrangement. But what can you do to give them more character?

What do you need to refurbish a chest of drawers?

  • Coarse and fine-grained sandpaper
  • Acrylic paint
  • Small paint roller
  • Paintbrush
  • Screwdriver
  • Sponge
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Bowls of water

If the dresser has stood for a long time in the attic or kitchen, it is certainly covered with dust, dirt or greasy deposits. For this purpose, it is advisable to gently wash the piece of furniture with dishwashing liquid, which will slightly degrease the surface. Be careful, however, not to get the dresser too wet or it will bend! Then, use a screwdriver to unscrew the knobs or handles so that you can carry out further operations more easily.

When the piece of furniture is dry, sand off the top layer of paint with a coarse-grained sandpaper and then finish with a fine-grained one. Paint the dresser two or three times and you’re done. The chest of drawers is restored.

However, if you want to spice up its look a bit, you can use painter’s tape to mark out different shapes and figures, which you can then paint with any colors you like. You can also cover drawers, doors or sides of the furniture with wallpaper or velvet fabric. This will give it an elegant character. It will also be a good idea to drape a thin mirror over the dresser, which will make the piece of furniture more glamorous.

Remember to match your dresser with the right handles, which will form a cohesive whole with the furniture.
