How to make self-tanner at home and why is it a better option than buying a ready-made one?

Brown skin is the effect we look forward to all year long. Although the summer months are just around the corner, it’s worth having an alternative that can effectively replace the sun’s rays for the rest of the year. When looking for the perfect self-tanner, it’s worth looking around your kitchen to see what you can conjure up from the products in there.

The benefits of home self-tanner

First, there’s the price. At drugstores and perfumeries, prices range from 15 PLN to even 150 PLN. Making home self-tanner, we use cheap products and those that most of us have at home. So they are one hundred percent natural, which can be important information for allergy sufferers. Homemade self tanner doesn’t smell, unlike the store bought ones whose smell is so intense that some people are effectively deterred from using them. You have to reckon, though, that self-tanner made at home can also stain your clothes if applied too thickly. To enjoy your tan for as long as possible, repeat application every day. There are several ways to prepare your own self-tanner, so it’s easy to find the ingredients and form that suits you best. All of them have oils or butters in their composition to bring not only beautiful color but also moisturization to your skin

Self-tanner in the form of body butter

Prepare:

  • 2 large tablespoons of shea butter,
  • 1 large tablespoon of coconut butter,
  • 1 level tablespoon of cocoa,
  • 1 level tablespoon cinnamon,
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg.

Melt the shea butter and coconut butter in a water bath, cool and add the cocoa, nutmeg and cinnamon. Stir, then put in the fridge. Allow the top layer to set. The bottom must remain liquid. Blend the whole thing with a mixer until light and light brown.

Self-tanner in oil form

Prepare:

  • liquid coconut oil,
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa,
  • ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg,
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon.

Pour the coconut oil into the bottle. Add cocoa, nutmeg and cinnamon. Cap the bottle and shake to mix the ingredients thoroughly.

Self-tanner in a cube

Prepare:

  • 2 large tablespoons of beeswax,
  • 2 large tablespoons of shea butter,
  • 2 large spoons of coconut oil,
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa,
  • ½ teaspoon grated nutmeg,
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon.

Melt the beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil in a water bath. Once cooled, add cocoa, nutmeg and cinnamon. Mix so that there are no lumps in the product. Pour the mixture into a mold, such as an ice cube tray. Put it in the fridge for a few hours to set. When the cubes are ready, spread them over the areas where you want to get the tanning effect.

Self-tanner with coffee in spray form

Prepare:

  • 2.5 cups of chilled coffee,
  • 2 cups of water,
  • ¼ cup almond oil.

Pour coffee, water and oil into an atomizer bottle. Shake before each use. Spray the prepared mixture over the body after bath and massage with your hands in circular motions

Self-tanner with tea spray

Prepare:

  • 4 black tea bags,
  • 2 cups of water.

Let the tea steep for about 15 minutes. Cool and pour into an atomizer container. Apply to dry skin immediately after bathing

Self-tanner with tea and cocoa

Prepare:

  • 4 black tea bags,
  • ¾ cup of hot water,
  • ⅓ cup cocoa,
  • ½ cup coconut or sunflower oil.

Brew 2 tea bags in ¾ cup of water. Add cacao and oil. Blend until smooth and
homogeneous. Add the brewed tea from the other two tea bags. If the consistency is too thin – add cocoa.

Walnut self-tanner

You will only need green walnut shells to prepare this product

Grate the walnut shells with a fine mesh grater. Press the pulp through a cloth or gauze. Apply the resulting pulp evenly over the body.

Self-tanner from your favorite lotion and cocoa

Prepare:

  • ½ cup of your favorite body lotion, preferably non-greasy, moisturizing and light in color,
  • ½ cup of cocoa.

Mix all the ingredients together.
