DIY: mint in the starring role see recipes for homemade cosmetics

Mint is a plant that blooms naturally in the summer, while in stores we can buy its cuttings throughout the year. On hot days we add it to drinks, it cools and refreshes perfectly. We also drink it as a tea, use it as a spice and addition to desserts or dishes. It is an excellent natural remedy for colds, digestion and stomach problems. On the market we can also find peppermint oils, which can be used to massage muscles or the forehead area in the fight against migraines. Mint can also be used in making homemade cosmetics.

Mint leaves contain components slowing down the aging process flavonoids, phenolic acids, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium and vitamin A, which positively affect the condition of our skin, nourishing and moisturizing it. Mint helps refresh our complexion, brightens it and regulates the work of sebaceous glands. It is perfect for dry skin and skin with imperfections. Below we present a few recipes for homemade cosmetics with the use of mint.

Peppermint mask

Ingredients:

  • about 20 mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt
  • tbsp of lemon or lime juice

Blend all the ingredients with a blender. Apply the ready mixture evenly on a clean and dried face. Keep for about 15-20 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water.

Peppermint bath balls

Ingredients:

  • about 20 mint leaves
  • 6 tbsp olive oil
  • 100 g citric acid
  • 1 glass of baking soda

Blend the mint leaves with the olive oil using a blender. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and then add mint paste to it. Knead and form a ball. If the mixture is too dry, add a little water. Put the mixture into the mold of your choice – it can be in the shape of a classic ball or a crazier shape. After about 2-3 hours remove the mixture from the mold and leave in a cool, dry place for at least 12 hours to set completely. Use immediately or wrap in cling film and store up to 3 days.

Mint hair rinse

Pour boiling water over a handful of fresh mint leaves to cover them and let them cool. Wash your hair with shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Then pour the prepared infusion (without the leaves) over your hair and massage it into your scalp. After 5-10 minutes, rinse your hair with lukewarm water. Note: the rinse is not recommended for ladies with light hair, it can put slightly green reflections.

Mint sugar scrub

Ingredients:

  • 2 handfuls of mint leaves
  • 2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar

Blend the mint leaves and coconut oil with a blender. Then add sugar to the resulting paste and mix with a spatula. The scrub is ready to use. You can also put it in a jar and keep it in the fridge for up to 7 days.

Mint face tonic

Ingredients:

  • handful of mint
  • boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon of liquid honey
  • 15 ml of apple or rice vinegar

Pour boiling water over the mint to cover the leaves and let it cool down. Pour the infusion into a glass (without the leaves), add the vinegar and honey. If you have solid honey at home, melt it on a plate and let it cool, then add it to the mixture. Pour the mixture into a bowl. This will create about 100 ml of tonic. Use this amount for up to 7 days. It is best to store the tonic in the refrigerator.
